Why In-Home Vestibular Care Makes Sense
-
Get Help Without Driving While Dizzy
Vertigo, dizziness, and balance problems can make driving or even riding in a car uncomfortable or unsafe. Your physical therapist comes directly to you, so you can be evaluated and treated without the added challenge of traveling to a clinic.
-
Find Out What Your Symptoms Point To
Not all dizziness is the same. Your visit includes a focused assessment of your symptoms, balance, eye and head movements, walking, and positional triggers to determine whether your presentation is appropriate for vestibular physical therapy and what treatment may help.
-
Treatment Can Begin During Your First Visit
When appropriate, treatment begins during the same appointment. This may include BPPV repositioning maneuvers, vestibular exercises, balance training, walking practice, and strategies to help you move more confidently in your own environment.
Not All Dizziness Is the Same
Dizziness and vertigo can come from different causes, and the right treatment depends on what your examination shows. BPPV is one common cause of positional vertigo, but it is not the only reason someone may feel dizzy or unsteady.
Your visit begins with a focused vestibular and balance evaluation based on your symptoms. This may include positional testing, eye and head movement testing, balance and walking assessment, and other appropriate clinical tests.
If your findings are appropriate for physical therapy, treatment can begin during the same visit. If your presentation suggests that additional medical evaluation is needed, we will help guide you toward the appropriate next step.
What to Expect From Your Vestibular Evaluation
Your first visit is a 60-minute, one-on-one evaluation and treatment session in your home. We start by understanding exactly what you are feeling, what movements trigger your symptoms, and how dizziness or imbalance is affecting your daily life.
Before the visit ends, you’ll understand what we found, what we recommend, and what your next step should be.
-
We’ll talk through when your dizziness started, what it feels like, how long it lasts, what brings it on, and whether certain movements such as rolling in bed, looking up, bending over, standing, walking, or turning your head make it worse.
-
Based on your symptoms, your evaluation may include positional testing for BPPV, assessment of eye and head movements, gaze stability, standing balance, walking, strength, mobility, and other appropriate tests.
If your presentation suggests that physical therapy is not the appropriate starting point, we will recommend the appropriate medical follow-up rather than treating something outside our scope.
-
You usually do not have to wait for another appointment to begin care. Based on your findings, treatment may include a canalith repositioning maneuver for BPPV, vestibular exercises, gaze-stabilization training, balance and walking exercises, or a personalized home program.
What You Can Expect From In-Home Vestibular Care
-

Prompt Appointments When You Need Help
Dizziness and vertigo can disrupt your day quickly. We offer prompt scheduling whenever possible so you can be evaluated without waiting weeks for a traditional clinic appointment.
-

60 Minutes of Private, One-on-One Care
Your initial visit is fully dedicated to you, with time to understand your symptoms, perform the appropriate examination, explain the findings, and begin treatment when indicated.
-

Care Brought Directly to Your Home
When dizziness or imbalance makes driving and traveling difficult, your therapist comes to you. You can be evaluated and treated in the environment where you actually move, walk, use stairs, and complete daily activities.
-

Treatment Based on What We Find
Vestibular care should not be a generic set of balance exercises. Your treatment is selected based on your symptoms and examination and may include BPPV repositioning maneuvers, gaze-stabilization exercises, habituation, balance training, walking practice, or other appropriate strategies.
-

Communication With Your Medical Team When Needed
Dizziness can have many causes. When appropriate, we can coordinate with your physician, ENT, neurologist, or other healthcare provider and recommend further medical evaluation when your presentation falls outside the appropriate scope of physical therapy.
-

The Right Amount of Care for Your Condition
Some vestibular problems may respond quickly, while others require a more progressive rehabilitation program. Your recommendations are based on your findings, your response to treatment, and what is actually needed to help you return to normal activity safely and confidently.

What Patients Say About Vestibular & Balance Care
“I had been dealing with dizziness and balance issues for months. I was nervous walking outside, turning my head too quickly, and even getting up at night because I was worried I might fall. I had seen other providers but still didn’t really understand what was going on or what I could do about it.
Matt came to my home and spent a lot of time figuring out what was contributing to my symptoms. He explained everything clearly and gave me exercises that actually felt specific to what I was experiencing instead of just general balance exercises.
Within a few visits, I could tell things were improving. I was less dizzy, felt steadier on my feet, and started feeling more comfortable doing things on my own again. Having Matt come to my home also made everything much easier.
I would definitely recommend Elliott Concierge Physical Therapy to anyone in the South Bend area dealing with dizziness or balance problems.”
