Why in-home care

Why In-Home Post-Surgical Care Matters

The first weeks after surgery are when travel, stairs, car transfers, and waiting rooms are hardest—and when guidance matters most.

Safety, Comfort & Mobility Guidance

Support during the earliest stage of recovery: safe mobility, positioning, transfer training, walking guidance, and early pain-reduction strategies.

Incision-Area, Swelling & Red-Flag Monitoring

Your therapist observes the incision area, dressing, swelling, and post-surgical red flags during visits. If something looks outside the expected pattern, we help guide communication with your surgeon.

A More Comfortable Recovery at Home

No travel, waiting rooms, or rushed visits—just one-on-one care focused on mobility, safety, education, hands-on treatment, and steady progress.

Your plan

A Procedure-Specific Plan, Not Generic Post-Op Therapy

Rehabilitation should be built around the exact procedure you had, not just the body part involved. A knee replacement, rotator cuff repair, reverse shoulder replacement, hip replacement, spine surgery, fracture repair, or tendon reconstruction each needs a different approach. The goal is the right pace: not so aggressive that healing tissue is overloaded, and not so cautious that stiffness, weakness, or fear limit your recovery.

Your Surgery & Surgeon's Protocol

We review your procedure, post-operative instructions, precautions, restrictions, and expected milestones so your care aligns with the surgical plan.

Your Healing Timeline

Bone, tendon, ligament, muscle, and joint tissues recover at different rates. Exercise and activity progress with your stage of healing and how your body responds.

Your Home, Lifestyle & Goals

Real-life recovery: walking safely at home, stairs, getting in and out of the car, and getting back to golf, tennis, pickleball, travel, work, and daily independence.

Step by step

Your Recovery, Phase by Phase

Every plan follows your surgeon's protocol. This is what care can look like from before surgery through full recovery.

What to expect

Concierge Care From Surgery Through Full Recovery

  • Private, one-on-one treatment. No rushed visits and no overlapping patients—time for hands-on care, gait training, exercise, education, and home safety.
  • Communication with your surgeon. When appropriate, we coordinate on protocols, precautions, red flags, and milestones so rehab stays aligned with the surgical plan.
  • Care where recovery happens. Especially valuable when driving, transfers, stairs, elevators, and waiting rooms make simple appointments exhausting.
  • Support beyond the basics. Care doesn't have to end when you can walk again; we can keep building strength, balance, and confidence for the activities you want back.

“After my spinal surgery, I knew I didn’t want to bounce between crowded clinics. Elliott Concierge PT brought expert care to me, on my schedule. It felt more like working with a private medical advisor than a therapist.”

J.M. — Naples, FL

“Having therapy in my home after surgery changed everything. I felt safe, supported, and ahead of schedule. Matthew made the entire recovery smoother than I expected.”

Questions

Questions About Post-Surgical Physical Therapy

When should I contact you?

Ideally before your surgery. A pre-surgical visit lets us prepare your home, equipment, and transfers, and plan your first visits after surgery. If you're already home, contact us and we'll discuss timing with you and your surgeon's plan.

Will you follow my surgeon's protocol?

Yes. We review your procedure, post-operative instructions, precautions, and restrictions, and progress care within your surgeon's plan. When appropriate, we communicate with your surgeon or medical team.

Is this home health care?

No. ECPT provides private, one-on-one physical therapy in your home or another appropriate setting. It is not a home health agency service. If you need nursing or home health care, we'll tell you.

How long are visits?

Your first visit is a full 60 minutes, one-on-one with a Doctor of Physical Therapy. After that, visits run 45, 60, or 90 minutes, depending on your plan, goals, and availability.

Do I need a referral or prescription?

In many cases, you can begin physical therapy without a physician referral. However, depending on your medical history, surgery, diagnosis, insurance situation, or state-specific requirements, we may recommend or require coordination with your physician.

Do you bill insurance or Medicare?

ECPT is a private-pay practice and does not bill Medicare. For patients with commercial insurance, we provide an itemized invoice (often called a superbill) to submit for out-of-network reimbursement. Reimbursement depends on your plan.

Where do visits take place?

Your therapist comes to you—your home, office, private gym, senior living residence, or another appropriate private space—in South Bend & Michiana, Southwest Michigan, and Naples & Southwest Florida.
